Witches pointed hats a fashion trend?

a clip art of a paper piecing witch flying on a broom for Halloween wearing a witches pointed hat

Witch it be this Halloween.

In the 15th Century the pointed hats started out as a fashion trend in London but later only the "pagani", folk women who live in the country wore them.  These wise women became known for their use of herbs in their daily lives for healing. Once witches trial started, these women fell suspect to using the "black arts". By Victorian times the hats became a common image associated with witches, which were depicted as old hags.
